Grizz Gaming advances to bracket play of ‘The SLAM OPEN’ with 3-2 series win over the Gen.G Tigers of Shanghai

Bracket Play Scheduled for May 11-14 in Indianapolis

Memphis, Tenn. — Grizz Gaming, the NBA 2K League affiliate of the Memphis Grizzlies, concluded Group 1 play in The SLAM OPEN on Friday night with a 3-2 win over the Gen.G. Tigers of Shanghai. The SLAM OPEN is the NBA 2K League’s first 3-on-3 tournament and the first to include amateur teams. Grizz Gaming clinched the second seed in Group 1 to advance to bracket play, which is set to take place in Indianapolis beginning Wednesday, May 11.

Grizz Gaming took the first two games in the best-of-five series before the Tigers forced a Game 5 following two victories in a row. JMoney (Jordan Martinez) scored 16 of Grizz Gaming’s 21 points in Game 5 to secure the series-clinching win. Memphis’ squad shot a perfect 9-for-9 from the field in the series finale, with JMoney finishing 7-of-7, including 2-of-2 from 3-point range. BP (Michael Diaz) and Jrod (Justin Rodriguez) rounded out Grizz Gaming’s lineup in the league’ first ever 3-on-3 tournament.

The 16-team bracket play will feature eight first round games that will be played as best-of-five series. Friday, May 13, will feature all four quarterfinal matchups in a best-of-seven format. The tournament will conclude on Saturday, May 14, with the semifinals as well as the finals, which are also best-of-seven series. The prize pool will award $60,000 to The SLAM OPEN champions. Second place will receive $30,000 while the third and fourth place teams earn $15,000 each.
