Grizz Gaming concludes inaugural season

Grizz Gaming will conclude its inaugural regular season Saturday against Heat Check Gaming at 4 p.m. CT. The team was eliminated from playoff contention with a loss to Raptors Uprising GC this past Saturday.

However, given where the team was after the first tournament and few weeks of regular season play, General Manager Lang Whitaker and company should be pleased with how far the team has come since.

“It has been a journey,” said Whitaker. “As the season has gone along we’ve gotten used to the schedule and what it’s like to travel. We’ve made a push here towards the end of the season. We got eliminated from the playoff race last week, but we still have one game to play and we can still have an effect on this league based on how we do this weekend. So it’s still an important game for us.”

The team’s growth has been evident over the last few weeks and they will look to showcase that for the final time against a solid Heat Check Gaming team, who enters the final week of the regular season at 7-4 and in sole possession of fourth place in the NBA 2K League Standings.

Heat Check overcame struggles of its own and now own a 4-game winning streak.

“I think since the patch, the Heat have been one of the best defensive and offensive teams,” said Whitaker. “They’re rolling right now. Hotshot has been awesome for them. Hopefully we have a chance to match up well against them. We played them in the opening tournament and we were one shot at the buzzer away from overtime. We respect and enjoy all those guys on the team and Famous their coach. We’re looking forward to the game and excited to close our season with a good game.”

Hotshot (Juan Gonzalez) is one of the league’s leading scorers at 27.8 ppg and leads all scorers in regular season play (28.3 ppg). He will likely be looking for a little revenge as it was his 54 points that AuthenticAfrican surpassed for the league’s single game scoring record. Maje7ic (Stanley Lebron) is the team’s second leading scorer (14.3) and leads the team in assists (8.0 apg).

Expect two of the league’s best scorers to have prolific outings to close the regular season. Fans can tune in Saturday at twitch.com/grizzgaming.
