Grizz Gaming drops two games to Wizards District Gaming, moves to 9-3

A battle between the top two teams in the Eastern Conference resulted in two loses for Grizz Gaming, the NBA 2K League affiliate of the Memphis Grizzlies, as Wizards District Gaming earned a sweep on Friday. The sweep ended a six-game winning streak for Grizz Gaming and gave Wizards District Gaming the top spot in the Eastern Conference.

JBM (John Mascone) and Dayfri (Ryan Conger) had Wizards District Gaming out to an early lead in Game 1 but Vandi’s (Zach Vandivier) seven first-quarter points on 3-for-6 shooting kept the lead to 17-11 at the end of the quarter. Grizz Gaming cut the deficit to two in the second quarter until JBM hit a three and assisted a last second layup to bring the score to 32-27 at halftime. JBM and Vandi led their respective teams with 13 points each at the break. The Wizards put together a run featuring a 35-foot 3-pointer from Brich (Brandon Richardson) in the third quarter to stretch the lead to double digits and continue to lock down the Grizz Gaming offense down the stretch to take Game 1, 72-50. JBM finished with 30 points and 10 assists while Dayfri turned in 18 points and 9 rebounds. Brich went 5-for-7 from three for 17 points. Vandi scored 25 points with five assists while AuthenticAfrican (Mehyar Ahmed-Hassan) notched a double-double with 11 points and 13 rebounds.
Wizards District Gaming built another early lead in Game 2 behind eight first-quarter points from Newdini (Manuel Newman II). The Wizards maintained a double-digit lead throughout the first half and held a 40-29 lead at halftime with three starters scoring more than 10 points. AuthenticAfrican led the Grizzlies with 10 points and five rebounds in the half. Vandi launched a 12-2 run to bring the Grizzlies within one point in the third quarter, but JBM found his shot to leave the Grizzlies with a 54-48 deficit to overcome to start the fourth quarter. The Wizard’s shotmaking was too much to overcome, however, as Grizz Gaming dropped Game 2. JBM led Wizards District Gaming with 23 points and 13 assists while Chess (Kory Taylor) led Grizz Gaming with 27 points.
