Grizz Gaming earns first win of 2019, defeats Bucks Gaming

Long Island City, N.Y. — Grizz Gaming (1-3) earned its first win of the 2019 season with a convincing 61-52 win over Bucks Gaming (3-2). Memphis’ team was in control for the vast majority of the game and led by as many as 13. Rookie point guard Vandi erupted for 28 points and 11 assists on 11-of-19 shooting.
Grizz Gaming was hot out of the gate, taking an early 9-4 lead and forcing turnovers before Bucks Gaming went on a 10-0 run. Grizz would then close the opening frame on a 6-0 run to take a 15-14 lead and scored the first six points of the second quarter, extending the run to as much as 16-3. The Grizz would hold Bucks to just eight points in a span of nearly a quarter and a half to take a 29-22 lead into the break.
Bucks responded to each push by Grizz in the third quarter and kept the game within reach at 41-35. But the team from Milwaukee ran out of gas in the fourth as Grizz opened the period on a 9-2 run and led by as many as 13.
The two main deterrents to a Grizz win thus far were absent in tonight’s win with the team’s lowest point differential in any quarter at -1. Additionally, the team committed just six turnovers while forcing 13 Bucks turnovers.
AuthenticAfrican had another double-double for Grizz Gaming, posting 12 points and 10 boards. Grizz held the league’s leading scorer, ARooks (13 points), to less than half of his average entering the game (27.3 ppg). BigMeek hit four three-pointers for Bucks Gaming and led the team with 14 points.
