Grizz Gaming follows up complete performance with Week 8 doubleheader
July 5, 2018
After its most complete performance of the 2018 season against Knicks Gaming, Grizz Gaming has a golden opportunity to shoot up the standings in two Week 8 matchups. Sitting at 3-5, the team takes on Bucks Gaming, who is also 3-5, Friday night at 7 p.m. before meeting Wizards District Gaming (4-4) on Saturday at 11 a.m. CT.
Grizz Gaming rebounded from a brief and early deficit to gradually build their lead up to 15 throughout the first three quarters. It was their most complete performance this season and it boils down to AuthenticAfrican’s play at point guard (15.5 assists per game in the last four weeks) and UniversalPhenom’s ascension from steady, consistent production to big numbers (24.0 ppg, 11.5 rpg in the last two weeks).
The team’s recent surge has more layers than that and General Manager Lang Whitaker credits the team’s overall scoring balance and production.
“I just hope we can continue that same balanced production”, said Whitaker. “These last two games we almost had everyone in double figures. We did two weeks ago, this week we had four of the five and one guy was two points away. If we can keep that balanced production that makes us tough to stop.”
Bucks Gaming will employ a balanced scoring attack, with no player averaging 17 points and four players averaging at least 12 points.
“It’s two totally different styles of play really,” said Whitaker. “The Bucks have that strong inside game with oLarry (16.6 ppg, 7.1 rpg) and Peroxide (14.2 ppg) has been really strong for them too. Every time you play against the Bucks, it’s like a home game because they have a lot of guys from New York, so there’s always a big crowd there cheering them on every week.”
On the flip side, Wizards District Gaming features one of the league’s most prolific scorers in Boo Painter, who sits at second in the NBA 2K League in scoring with 25.8 points per game.
“Boo for the Wizards has been a big scorer,” said Whitaker. “They play five out a lot and use him. Jin (16.8 ppg) has been really big for them and JT (14.9 ppg) has been great for them too. Two totally different styles of play and we just have to do our best to stop them.”
Week 8 provides a huge opportunity for Grizz Gaming to elevate themselves in the NBA 2K League standings and fans can live stream both games at twitch.com/grizzgaming.
