Grizz Gaming snaps losing streak in topsy-turvy affair

New York City – Grizz Gaming snapped a four-game regular season losing streak by defeating Warriors Gaming Squad 70-68 in a back-and-forth contest Friday at the NBA 2K League Studio Powered by Intel in New York City. With the game tied at 68-68 with 7.9 seconds left, DDouble2K (Daniel Davis) put Grizz Gaming up for good with a jumper from the right elbow leaving 1.9 seconds on the clock.

All five Grizz Gaming players scored in double figures in a balanced team effort, led by UniversalPhenom’s (Antonio Saldivar) 17 points on 7-of-10 shooting. In his first game of the season at point guard, AuthenticAfrican (Mehyar Ahmed-Hassan) posted a double-double of 14 points and 14 assists. DDouble2K (13 points, 10 rebounds) also recorded a double-double at center. Winner_Stayz_On (Larell Mitchell) poured in 15 points on 6-of-10 shooting (3-5 3P) while ayeTHREAT (Troy Minott II) contributed 11 points.

Memphis’ team owned a 22-13 advantage on the boards, tying a season-high for rebounds and recorded season highs in points (70) and three-pointers made (8-12 3P). Grizz Gaming outscored Warriors Gaming Squad 43-23 in the first and fourth quarters while the script flipped to 45-27 in the second and third periods in favor of the Warriors.

Grizz Gaming came out swinging, opening the game on a 17-2 run and making their first eight field goal attempts. The team continued to own a comfortable 30-14 lead in the second period before Warriors Gaming Squad closed the first half on a 19-6 run to cut the lead to three at halftime.

It appeared the Warriors had taken control in the second half and led 64-54 with just a couple minutes remaining in the game. However, Grizz Gaming had other things in mind. After cutting the deficit to 66-60, Grizz Gaming scored eight unanswered points courtesy of three pointers from ayeTHREAT and Winner_Stayz_On. The final attempt for Warriors Gaming Squad fell short near the basket.

Vert (Jordan Gates; 21 points) and LYKaPRO (Cody Hart ; 21 points, seven assists) led Warriors Gaming Squad with a combined 42 points on 19-of-32 shooting. Bsmoove (Alexander Reese) also scored in double digits with 12 points.
