Grizz Gaming sweeps Lakers Gaming for first win

Team Sets Franchise Single-Game Scoring Record in Game 2

Grizz Gaming, the NBA 2K League affiliate of the Memphis Grizzlies, won both games (67-60, 103-56) in a best-of-three series against Lakers Gaming to record its first win of the season Thursday night. The team’s 103-point performance in Game 2 set a single-game franchise record as the team reached the 100-point plateau for the first time. Additionally, in Game 2, G O O F Y 7 5 7 (Dayvon Curry) recorded the clubs first-ever triple-double (18 points, 12 rebounds, 12 assists).

The Grizz took a 20-15 lead at the end of the first quarter before leading by five (35-30) at halftime of Game 1. Lakers Gaming slowly chipped away at the lead and tied the game up at 56-56 midway through the final frame, but Grizz Gaming embarked on a 7-0 run that would prove to be the difference. Vandi (Zach Vandivier) led the Grizz with 29 points (13-21 FG) to go with six assists. G O O F Y 7 5 7 had his fifth straight double-double (10 points, 12 rebounds) while adding seven assists and three steals. SAV (Sten Valge-Saar), who averaged 44.5 points in Wednesday’s games, finished with 31 points and 10 assists to lead Lakers Gaming.

Grizz Gaming opened Game 2 with a 27-9 edge in the first quarter and never looked back, leading by as many as 31 in the first half. The team outscored Lakers Gaming 35-16 in the fourth quarter to close the game out. In addition to G O O F Y 7 5 7’s first career triple-double, Vandi (12 assists) and Jrod (Justin Rodriguez) poured in 31 points each. SAV led the Lakers with 30 points and eight assists.

The team returns to action next Tuesday, June 2, at 8 p.m. against Celtics Crossover Gaming and Thursday, June 4, against Pistons GT. Games can be seen live on the ESPN app and the NBA 2K League’s Twitch and YouTube channels.
