Grizz Gaming to face Cavs Legion GC and top scorer Hood at high noon Saturday
May 18, 2018
Grizz Gaming already proved last week how it is capable of handling adversity. Now it’s time for the team to do the same with success. Its showing in week one of the regular season was a complete 180 from THE TIPOFF as the team knocked off a strong Pacers Gaming 64-57.
“I hope we can build on what happened last week,” said Grizz Gaming General Manager Lang Whitaker. “I feel like we turned a corner and we used a lineup that we had not used before, put some guys in different positions and it worked. That being said, we can still play better than we did last week. All of us agree that the win was great. None of us are looking that in the face, but our hope is that we’re able to build on that and keep getting better. We can play better defensely, our offense can be sharper. All of us agree on that.”
As stated in last week’s preview, the key was taking care of the ball and the squad responded with a season-low eight turnovers. Additionally, the team made another lineup change that worked wonders. After a strong showing at center at THE TIPOFF, AuthenticAfrican made the move to small forward and recorded 24 points (10-15 FG) and seven assists.
Another such performance wouldn’t hurt Grizz Gaming’s chances against Cavs Legion GC in week two. Despite losing in week one, Cavs Legion GC was a semifinalist at THE TIPOFF and boasts the league’s most prolific scorer in Hood, who has played primarily at small forward even though he qualified as a point guard.
Hood currently leads the league in total points (201) and is averaging 33.5 points, 7.0 assists and 4.2 rebounds in combined play thus far. He has scored 40-or-more in three games, including 46 points twice during THE TIPOFF.
“Do our best to slow him down,” Whitaker said of his approach. “Hood has had some incredible performances early on. He’s their point forward and they run everything through him. We’ll just do our best to play team defense and try to limit what the other guys are able to do. I don’t think we can stop him, just do our best to slow him down as much as he can.
Much like WoLF 74 last week, a plan to neutralize Hood is sure to be in the works. Fans can live stream the game at twitch.com/nba2kleague.
