Grizz Gaming Update – Mar. 13

It seems like just days ago we were putting together the Grizz Gaming logo reveal video and getting ready to launch our team in the NBA 2K League out into the world. And then you blink your eyes and all of a sudden it’s March, which means we are just weeks away from the start of the inaugural season of the NBA 2K League. And on the heels of today’s NBA 2K League Draft Lottery, I thought I’d take a second to update all y’all on everything that’s happening here at the Grizz Gaming Worldwide Headquarters.

The short answer is that it’s not what is happening, it’s what isn’t happening. Because everything is happening, all of the time. You might think that being part of launching a team in the NBA 2K League would mostly require playing a lot of NBA 2K18. And you would be wrong. Because besides playing 2K, there are a lot of decisions to be made.

As I write this, it’s 10 o’clock in the morning and I’ve already had two meetings related to Grizz Gaming. I’m also trying to buy everything from desks to sodas (oh so much soda), and literally moments ago I got pulled away from my desk and asked where we should mount a huge glass dry erase board in the Grizz Gaming practice facility.

Speaking of that practice facility, that’s where most of our attention has been focused. There have been inspiring late night emails and meetings with architects and lighting designers and tech people who speak a language I don’t really understand. Without giving away too many details, we are building a Grizz Gaming space that is unique to Memphis and what this region represents, that will hopefully be singular and memorable and awesome. When we’re all done, we’ll have a big reveal, I promise.

In the meantime, we are getting ready for the inaugural NBA 2K League Draft, which will take place on April 4 in New York City. We found out earlier today in the Draft Lottery that we will have the 15th overall selection in the first round, out of the 17 teams. This is right around the range where I was hoping to draft, because this is a “snake” draft, meaning the picks go back and forth in a serpentine fashion from round to round. So out of the 102 selections in the draft, we will pick 15th, 20th, 48th, 54th, 83rd and 88th. As someone who is a little (OK, a lot) superstitious, I was honestly thrilled to land the 54th pick, because I wore the number 54 throughout my high school basketball career.

Thanks for your support thus far and make sure to follow us on all our social media channels @grizzgaming. The season will tip-off in May, and there remains a lot to do before we get there. Blink and it’ll be here before you know it.

Someone press start.
